Summer Session 2021

SHSST is pleased to announce online course offerings for the 2021 Summer Sessions. All courses will be offered in online formats via Zoom sessions, asynchronously (online only with no Zoom sessions), or a combination. Please see the course listings and schedules below for each session. Courses are limited to 15 students; register early to ensure enrollment.

These courses are open to the public and we are happy to provide a substantial discount to alumni who would like to audit.

CS–605 Canon Law of Marriage

Fr. John Cella, OFM

Virtual via Zoom Monday & Wednesday 1:00-4:25pm
(3 credits) This course examines the codes in canon law relating to marriage, especially with regard to the pastoral preparation for marriage, impediments to sacramental marriages, canonical requirements for the celebration of the Sacrament of Matrimony, and the annulment process. The course also discusses reception of the sacraments by those in irregular marriages and various current issues.

DT–601 Person and Destiny in a Fractured World

(3 credits) This course is a study of our humanity in the light of God’s revelation in Jesus Christ. It therefore covers the doctrines regarding human beings as created in the image of God, grace, justification, free will, gifts of the Spirit, and the relation between the natural and the supernatural. Components may also give specific attention to the last things and/or to pastoral application. [Equivalent to DT–600 Theological Anthropology and Eschatology] Prerequisite: Fundamental Theology, equivalent/consent

PS–551 Relational Leadership: Potential & Practice for Pastoral Settings

Online with two Zoom Sessions July 6 & 27 1:00-2:00pm
(2 credits) In this course students will define relational leadership, and identify basic model characteristics and qualities. Students will examine various topics including: leadership theory, dimensions of relational leadership, personal leadership strengths, ethical leadership, group dynamics, and organizational culture. Students will recognize and assess their own leadership traits and skills. Emphasis will be placed on the practice of leadership in lived experiences of pastoral settings.
