After 18 months of devoted work by Fr. Charles Brown, SCJ, “Our Lady of Compassion” was generously given in service to Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology by the Priest of the Sacred Heart. The icon of the blessed virgin Mary with the infant Christ reminds us of the close ties of Mary to Christ and his Church. Foremost, she was Christ’s mother, but is also the image and model of the Church, its exemplar. Fr. Charlie noted that he wants people to take away an individual meaning from the painting, but it is also public proclamation to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you to the SCJs for this beautiful gift. The artwork was blessed by the Most Reverend Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United State of America, during a Votive Mass of Our Lady, Mother of the Church on September 25, 2019. The image hangs in the Sacred Heart Chapel on a beautiful wooden stand made by Fr. Byron Halaand, SCJ.
