Blessing of Throats
February 3rd is the optional memorial of St. Blaise, Bishop and martyr (d. 316). According to legend, he miraculously cured a boy who was choking to death on a fish bone. He has long been associated with cures for the sick, especially afflictions of the throat. Because of that on this day, February 3rd, Sacred Heart traditionally blesses throats at Mass invoking the intercession of St. Blaise. This year due to Covid, it was a general blessing over those who attended.
The presider at Mass was Fr. Mark Mastin, S.C.J., a Sacred Heart alum.
